Setting up moderation
Before your team punishes anybody, decide a few things once: the usual lengths, saved reasons, when warnings stop counting, and where people can appeal. Then every moderator works the same way.
The defaults
Open Settings → General, section Moderation defaults:
| Setting | What it decides |
|---|---|
| Ban length | How long a ban lasts when a moderator does not say, for example /ban without a length. |
| Mute length | The same for mutes. A Discord mute can last at most 28 days. |
| Punishments apply to | This server, or every server in your organization, when nobody chooses. Only people who may punish across the organization can use the second. |
| Roblox bans apply | In every experience connected to this server, or only in the one the ban was given for. |
| Record what is done outside Technified | Also record bans, kicks and timeouts given in Discord itself or by other bots. On by default. |
Templates
A template is a punishment your team agreed on, ready to pick: a name, a kind, a platform, a length and a reason. A moderator picks “Exploiting, first time” and every field is filled in, the same way every time.
- Open Moderation → Templates & rules and add one.
- Fill in the name, the type (ban, mute, kick, warning), the platform (Discord or Roblox), the length and the reason the person reads.
- Save. It shows up under Template in the punishment dialog.
| Example template | Kind and length |
|---|---|
| Spam, first time | Discord warning. |
| Spam, again | Discord mute, 1 day. |
| Exploiting | Roblox ban, permanent. |
| Harassment | Discord ban, 7 days. |
When warnings stop counting
On the same page, under Warnings, choose Stop counting a warning after a number of days, for example 30. A warning then ends by itself after that time: it stays in the person’s history, but no longer counts as active. Warnings already given keep the rule that applied when they were given.
Good to know
Appeals
Make an appeal form for each kind of punishment you want people to appeal, under Applications → Forms → New appeal. As soon as it is open, every direct message about that kind of punishment has an Appeal button, and banned players see the link when they try to join your game. See Building forms.
Seeing what your team does
- Point the moderation events to a log channel, so every ban and lifted ban is posted as it happens. See Log channels.
- Moderation shows statistics for the last days: how many punishments of each kind, on which platform.
- Chat filters can record warnings by themselves; see Chat filters.
Who may do what
Issuing and lifting is a permission of staff roles, and staff can only act on lower staff ranks. Evidence is a separate permission, so a trial moderator can punish without seeing every screenshot. See Staff roles and permissions.
